Capture extension privacy

Last updated 2 October 2026

Musetta Capture is a browser extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox. It saves the posts you pick to the Musetta app running on your own computer. This page covers the extension only; the main privacy page covers your account and this site.

What it reads

Only what you ask it to save. When you press Save on a post, or choose “Save to Musetta” from the right-click menu, it reads that one post or page: its link, its image or video, the caption, the author’s handle, the platform it came from and the page details a link preview would show (title, description, preview image). It does not read your browsing history, your messages, your feed in the background or any page you have not asked it to save from.

On Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest and X it adds a small Save button to the posts on screen. Placing that button means looking at which posts the page shows; nothing about them leaves the page unless you press it.

Where it goes

To your own studio, at 127.0.0.1 or localhost on your computer, or to another address you type into the extension yourself. Saves are never sent to our servers. To fetch an image or video the platform protects, the extension may download it from that platform’s own media servers, the same way the page you are looking at does.

The one request to our site

So it can show the extra publish control to the few people who run the public Trends feed, the extension asks our site whether you are one of its admins, at most once every ten minutes while you use it. That request carries your sign-in cookie for this site if you have one, and nothing you saved. The answer is kept on your computer.

The public feed (site admins only)

If you are an admin of this site and choose to publish a saved post to the public Trends feed, the extension sends our site its link, the platform’s own thumbnail address, the caption, the author’s handle and the niche tags you chose. It never sends the image or video itself; the feed links back to the original post. Nobody else can publish, and an admin can remove a post from the feed at any time.

What it keeps in your browser

  • Your connection token: lets your studio accept saves from this browser. Disconnecting deletes it, and you can also revoke it from the studio.
  • Saves waiting to sync: if your studio is closed, a save waits in the browser, image or video included, and is deleted as soon as the studio receives it.
  • Small settings: your studio address, which posts you already saved (so the button can show it) and the admin answer above.

All of it lives in the extension’s own browser storage and is deleted when you remove the extension.

What it never does

No analytics, no tracking, no advertising and no sale or transfer of your data to anyone. It loads no remote code: every script it runs ships inside the extension and is reviewed by the browser’s store. It does not sign in to any platform for you, dismiss login walls or collect anything in the background.

Permissions, in plain words

  • Storage: the token, waiting saves and settings above.
  • Right-click menu, active tab and scripting: to read the one page or image you right-clicked or opened the extension on.
  • Your studio’s address and this site: to deliver saves and to ask the admin question.
  • Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest and X media servers: to download the image or video of a post you saved.
  • X’s public post service (cdn.syndication.twimg.com): asked for the video file of an X post you saved, by the post’s number only, without your X login.
  • Alarms: to retry waiting saves once a minute until your studio is open.
